History of Cairns Beer and Beef Club

The decision to form the Club was made at a special meeting convened at the Maple room, Northern Australian Breweries, on Wednesday afternoon the 18th November 1964.

The inaugural meeting of the Club was held on Thursday the 3rd December, 1964 at the Cairns Club. The original members of the Club were:

George Stevens (President), Les Pedersen (Secretary), Ian Booker (Treasurer), Charles Taylor, Ron Petrie, Jim Kenny, Bill Smart, Jim Healey, Mick Hawney, Morrie Horton, Gordon Williams, Arthur Wilkie, Eddie Patten, Tony Heffernan, Dick James, Vince Donnelly, Arthur Thompson, Peter Wallwork, Charlie Griffiths, Joe Bethune, Fred Williams, Fred Marsh, Bob Welch and Fred Elleary.

The original objects of the club were “To further the appreciation of good beer, good beef and good fellowship.” and those objects still form the foundation of the Club to this day.
